PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro is a lightweight, bike GPS receiver with ANT+ technology. Although primarily intended for cycling, it weighs just 84 grams and is suitable for most cardiovascular sports and for use as a general handheld GPS.
It has a large 128 x 128 pixel monochrome display controlled by two buttons and a multi-way central joystick and is supplied with a bike mount. The bike mount allows the unit to be fitted to the handlebars or stem, and holds the GPSport 260 Pro unit securely even when riding on rough off-road trails.
HIGH SENSITIVITY GPS RECEIVER
The GPSport 260 Pro uses a high sensitivity MTK GPS chipset that gives an accurate, stable position even when amongst tall buildings or under tree cover. Even from a completely cold start it will achieve a GPS fix in under 36 seconds.
WIRELESS HEART RATE, SPEED AND CADENCE SENSORS
The GPSport 260 Pro is capable of reading ANT+ wireless sensors. A heart rate monitoring belt and. sensors for measuring speed and cadence are available separately. Where no speed sensor is fitted the unit will derive speed and distance from the GPS signal. ANT+ sensors give a highly-reliable digitally coded wireless signal and are interchangeable between manufacturers.
TRIP DATA LOGGING
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro has four trip data recording modes for cycling, running, walking or in-vehicle use. The selected mode determines how often a waypoint is recorded. Each mode can be individually set by the user to record based on a specific time or distance interval.
By selecting Sport Mode and pressing the ‘Record’ button, the unit will start trip recording. Pressing the ‘Record’ button again will end recording. Alternatively the unit can be set to start recording automatically when it detects movement. With a large flash memory the GPSport 260 Pro is capable of recording multiple trips with up to 160,000 waypoints in total.
During use multiple data screens are used to display speed, distance, altitude, trip time, heart rate, cadence and calories burned. The screens can be cycled through by a simple push of the central joystick or can be set so they are cycled through automatically at a specific interval. It is possible for the user to specify what is displayed on some of the screens and there are 30 fields to choose from.
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro can display the current route so far as a ‘breadcrumb trail’ as well as live graphs of speed and altitude against time or distance.
RECORDING POINTS OF INTEREST
Pressing the central joystick button on the GPSport 260 Pro at any time will cause it to save the current location as a point of interest. These points of interest can later be displayed and examined in the Holux ezTour Plus software which comes with the unit.
COMPASS MODE
Selecting Compass Mode displays a digital compass. The compass needle rotates just like a normal compass as the unit is turned as the current heading is also shown in degrees and as a cardinal point. The compass screen displays the current latitude and longitude at the bottom of the display.
PLANNING AND FOLLOWING A ROUTE
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro allows routes to be planned using the included ezTour Planner software or they can be imported to ezTour Planner from a .GPX file. These can then be uploaded to the GPS unit and followed. Alternatively a route already recorded by the GPSport 260 Pro can be recalled from history and re-used.
When following a pre-planned route the GPSport 260 Pro will navigate you to each subsequent waypoint on the route by showing the direction, distance and estimated time to the waypoint. A track of the planned route can be displayed on the screen with an arrow indicating the current position within the route.
TRAINING SESSIONS
For those serious about improving their fitness, training sessions can be set up on the GPSport 260 Pro and executed. It is possible to specify the duration of the training session and the upper and lower limits for heart rate and/or cadence.
During the training session heart rate, cadence, speed, training time, distance and course gradient are all displayed across three screens. The GPSport 260 Pro will alert the user if heart rate or cadence go outside of the target range.
At the end of the session, detailed statistics are displayed showing how effective the training was, based on the original training goals. Training for sport requires the athlete to train at a variety of different intensities and being able to do this and stick to the training plan is a vital component of success.
FINDER FUNCTION AND GEO-CACHING
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro allows up to 20 locations to be stored into the unit. These can be defined and uploaded from the ezTour Plus software, saved from the current location or be manually input as a latitude and longitude. In addition, the GPSport 260 Pro will remember the start of the current route.
Selecting the ‘Finder’ mode will allow a save point to be selected and the unit will navigate back to that point by displaying the direction and distance.
This makes the GPSport 260 Pro ideal for geo-caching as the location of the caches can be downloaded or directly input. The finder function could also be used to find the track back down the mountain or the location where the car is parked for example.
PEDOMETER MODE
The Holux GPSport 260 Pro can function as a pedometer. In this mode it will count the number of steps, elapsed time, distance walked and calories used. To improve accuracy it is also possible to calibrate the unit with your natural stride length.
ANALYSING ROUTES AND TRAINING DATA ON THE COMPUTER
Installing the Holux ezTour Plus software from the included CD ROM allows routes and training data to be read from the GPS unit. Routes are shown overlaid on a Google Map provided the computer has a live internet connection. Recorded points of interest are shown as a small target and clicking them displays precise position, time, and altitude information.
Using the latest version of the EZTour PLUS software - Version 3.01 and above - routes can be shown on a Google Map, displayed in Google Earth or exported to the universal .GPX format which can be read by many other mapping applications.
Software updates are freely available from http://market.holux.com/Software/SU/
A wealth of training statistics relating to speed, duration, altitude, heart rate zones, cadence, route difficulty etc. are all displayed in summary format. Speed and altitude can be plotted as graphs over time or distance.
GEO-TAGGING PHOTOGRAPHS
The Holux ezTour Plus software is also capable of writing the location data into photo files and can upload them to photo sharing websites such as Flickr and Locr. By either setting your camera to the time displayed on the GPSport 260 Pro unit, or telling ezTour Plus the offset between the GPS and camera time, ezTour Plus can work out your position at the time each photo was taken.
CHARGING AND BATTERY LIFE
A 1050mAh lithium-ion battery enables the GPSport 260 Pro to run for up to 20 hours with the backlight off or 12 hours with the backlight on. The backlight can be set permanently on, enabling it to be used in complete darkness - ideal for sports training in winter and for walkers who want to make the most of shorter days.
The GPSport 260 Pro has a mini-USB port which is used for data transfer and charging. The GPS unit can be charged from a computer’s USB port or with the included mains charger.
SOFTWARE COMPATIBILITY
Please note the Holux ezTour software is only compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
The software and device have been thoroughly tested with each of these operating systems. Because of the multitude of possible PC configurations we regret that we are unable to provide support for individual driver, software or connectivity problems.
